Ben Sowers, Research Associate, qPCR Applications Specialist

Ben graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and began his career at Biosearch Technologies in 2004. Trained as a specialist in DNA applications, Ben began assisting customers in the design and use of probes and primers for quantitative PCR. With the collaboration of Celadon Laboratories’, Ben developed a free, web-based software tool that eventually became RealTimeDesign, which he still regularly updates with new and advanced features. Ben has given presentations on RealTimeDesign’s use at international and domestic conferences where it was well-received, and is now being used by several groups to design thousands of assays for projects spanning entire genomes. Currently, Ben helps develop packaged genetic systems for various applications, including the detection of spoilage organisms that contaminate the winemaking process.
