CAL Fluor and Quasar Dyes

Vibrant Dyes that Span the Spectrum

CAL Fluor and Quasar Dyes

Illuminate Your Oligos with CAL Fluor and Quasar Dyes

With an emission spectra ranging from 500-700 nm, the CAL Fluor and Quasar family of dyes were specifically formulated for labeling oligos used in real-time PCR amplifications. They can be incorporated into all major probe and primer formats, and are compatible with all commercial real-time thermal cyclers.

These advanced, high performance dyes are low cost alternatives to other dyes and possess these superior qualities:

  • High coupling efficiency
  • Built in spacer arm
  • Devoid of isomer contamination
  • Exceptional signal to noise ratio when coupled with the Black Hole Quencher (BHQ) Dyes
  • Perfectly compatible with the chemistry of DNA synthesis

Combinations of CAL Fluor and Quasar dyes can be fine-tuned to match the optics of each real-time thermal cycler. For more information on these dyes, please visit: CAL Fluor and Quasar Dyes. To order custom oligos labeled with CAL Fluor and Quasar Dyes, please visit our Online Ordering webpage.

Mark Reddington, Senior Research Scientist

Mark is an organic chemist specializing in the synthesis and development of fluorophores and quenchers for use in biochemical assays. He entered this field in 1991 as a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Alan Waggoner at Carnegie Mellon University where he investigated methods to improve the properties of fluorophores used in live cell studies. He has been instrumental in the development of Biosearch's Cal Fluor dye products for use with oligonucleotides and with new water-soluble quenchers and fluorophores for peptide and protein applications. While he continues to develop dyes to meet new applications, Mark is currently focused on novel conjugation chemistries for attaching dyes to biomolecules.
