Black Hole Quencher® Reagents

#

Biosearch’s proprietary Black Hole Quencher (BHQ®) dyes were designed to permit efficient quenching across the visible spectrum from 480 nm into the near IR, making it possible to utilize reporter dyes that emit anywhere within this range.

Black Hole Quencher Absorption Curve
Normalized absorption spectra of the BHQ dyes illustrate their range of quenching through FRET
BHQ dyes work through a combination of FRET and static quenching to enable researchers to avoid the residual background signal common to fluorescing quenchers such as TAMRA, or low signal:noise ratio as with dabcyl.

BHQ dyes have absorption and pair with reporter dyes that emit in the following ranges:

BHQ-0: 430-520 nm
BHQ-1: 480-580 nm
BHQ-2: 560-670 nm
BHQ-3: 620-730 nm

Black Hole Quencher® Amidites
BHQ amidites are used for the 5' labeling of fluorogenic probes or to place a quencher internally.

Black Hole Quencher® Columns & CPGs
For labeling the 3’ end of an oligonucleotide with a Black Hole Quencher dye, Biosearch offers controlled pore glass (CPG) and DNA synthesis columns containing BHQ CPG. Columns are available for the range of DNA synthesizers and BHQ CPGs are available in a variety of pore sizes.
