The I-TDabsyl modification adds a non-fluorescent 4-dimethylaminoazobenzene- 4''-sulfonyl chloride (DABSYL) dye internally or to the 5’ end of an oligonucleotide. The dabsyl is conjugated to a modified thymidine which may participate in hybridization. Dabsyl labeled oligonucleotides are used in a wide array of applications, including dual-labeled fluorogenic probes for real-time PCR. Dabsyl is a more water soluble version of the general purpose Dabcyl dark quencher that absorbs in the green range of the visible spectrum and is often paired with fluorescein.
